The Union Arms

The Union is situated directly next door to the George, great for when its raining because you don't have to go far from one pub to the next.

The Union was the original darts & dominoes pub and was the last to get done up in about 95, which managed to drive the codgers out. The union has become pretty popular since then and queues are not uncommon on a Friday night.

The Union has just been done up again (Jun 2002) but it seems to have gone a bit posh doing away with the pool table at the rear and the window seat at the front where you could sit and watch the High St go by. There has been a noticeable decline in the number of customers on a Friday night even in the couple of weeks since the refurbishment. This is down to the number of tables taking up space where all of the customers used to stand! The extra seating has just served to make the pub even narrower.

The beer garden has also had a makeover with fancy new patio brolleys and heaters which look quite smart. There's a reasonable menu cheaply priced & the atmosphere and beer are good. They do 'any 2 meals' off the menu for £4.99 The main draw back is it is another long narrow pub & the toilets are upstairs, no good when you're slaughtered.

Best feature, good beer garden and big screen sky TV, but lose some of the tables and seating before you lose all the customers!!
